Bar Harbor is a coastal town on Mount Desert Island in Hancock County, Maine. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 5,235. Popular as a tourist destination in the summer and fall, it was historically a prominent summer resort for wealthy visitors until a devastating fire in 1947. The town is home to the College of the Atlantic, The Jackson Laboratory, Bar Harbor Bank & Trust, and the MDI Biological Laboratory. Bar Harbor also contains the largest portion of Acadia National Park, including Cadillac Mountain, the highest point within 25 miles (40 km) of the eastern United States coastline.
