Katoomba Australia

Katoomba is the main town in the City of Blue Mountains in New South Wales, Australia. It lies on the Great Western Highway, about 110 km (68 miles) west of Sydney and 39 km (24 miles) south-east of Lithgow. Katoomba is a popular base for bushwalking and nature walks in the surrounding Blue Mountains, and its primary industry is tourism built around its dramatic mountain scenery. One of the area’s most famous sights is the rock formation known as the Three Sisters, which can be viewed from Echo Point, about 2 km (1.2 miles) south of the town centre. The Three Sisters attract around four million visitors each year. A short walk from Echo Point leads to the Giant Stairway, which provides access to a network of walking tracks through the Jamison Valley. Several of these tracks, including the Stairway itself, were closed in recent years for maintenance, but most have since reopened. Other attractions include Scenic World, a tourist complex on the southwestern side of town. Scenic World is home to the Katoomba Scenic Railway, the steepest funicular railway in the world. It also features the Scenic Skyway cable car, which glides across part of the Jamison Valley and offers spectacular views of Katoomba Falls and Orphan Rock.
