Kralendijk Caribbean Netherlands

Kralendijk is the capital city and main port of the island of Bonaire in the Caribbean Netherlands. The primary local language is Papiamentu, though Dutch and English are also widely spoken. The town’s name comes from the Dutch word “Koralendijk,” meaning “coral reef” or “coral dike.” In Papiamentu, Kralendijk is often called “Playa,” meaning “beach.” As of 2006, the town had a population of 3,061. Just off the coast lies the uninhabited island of Klein Bonaire, known for its excellent diving and snorkeling. It is accessible by water taxi and through most local dive operators.
