Most visitors split their time between the main rainforest area near Khao Sok Village and the spectacular Cheow Lan Lake. In the rainforest section, you can hike well-marked trails, join a guided night safari to spot nocturnal animals, or take a canoe trip down the Sok River, gliding past dramatic cliffs and thick jungle. Hiring a local guide is highly recommended for safety and to improve your chances of seeing wildlife, since they can identify animals and plants you might otherwise overlook. Cheow Lan Lake is the park’s standout attraction: a jade-green reservoir studded with sheer limestone pinnacles and floating bungalow camps. Spending a night in one of these raft houses is a highlight of any visit—wake to mist rising off the water, join an early-morning boat safari, or explore hidden coves and caves by longtail boat or kayak. Many tours add short jungle hikes to viewpoints or waterfalls, and the overall atmosphere is much calmer than in the popular beach destinations. The best time to visit is generally from December to April, when conditions are drier and trails are easier to walk, though the park remains lush and green all year. Pack light, breathable clothes, sturdy walking shoes, insect repellent, and a rain jacket, especially if you come in the wetter season. You’ll find everything from simple guesthouses in Khao Sok Village to mid-range treehouse lodges and the famous floating bungalows on the lake, so it’s easy to match your accommodations to your comfort level and budget.
