Lamu Kenya

Lamu, also known as Lamu Town, is a small town on Lamu Island, part of the Lamu Archipelago in Kenya. It lies about 341 kilometres (212 miles) by road northeast of Mombasa, with the road ending at Mokowe Jetty, from where a sea channel must be crossed to reach Lamu Island. Lamu is the capital of Lamu County and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The town features Lamu Fort on the seafront, built under Fumo Madi ibn Abi Bakr, the Sultan of Pate, and completed after his death in the early 1820s. Lamu is also home to 23 mosques, including the Riyadha Mosque, built in 1900, as well as a donkey sanctuary.
