About the destination: Mararikulam is a beach village in the Alappuzha district. The name comes from Marari (Lord Shiva), who is the main deity of the place. It has the famous Mararikulam Mahadevar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva (also called Marari by the locals). The area is known as a stronghold of communism and has a very beautiful shoreline called Marari Beach or Mararikulam Beach. The village is governed by two panchayats: Mararikulam South and Mararikulam North.
