About the destination: Bangkok, a city renowned for its cosmopolitan vibe in Asia, serves as the capital of Thailand. Despite its hot and crowded nature, Bangkok maintains a relative cleanliness and offers a plethora of enjoyable activities. The city boasts excellent shopping opportunities, a rich cultural scene, stunning temples, delectable cuisine, and a respectable art scene. The majority of Bangkok's attractions are located on the island of Rattanakosin, commonly known as the Old City. The Grand Palace is an absolute must-visit location. 4. Cha-Am
Stay
About the destination: Cha-Am is a quiet beach resort on the west coast of the Gulf of Siam, ideal for a relaxed seaside vacation. It is about 180 km southwest of Bangkok and can be reached in 3 to 4 hours. Many local families also come here on weekends to enjoy the area. Thanks to its mild climate and a rainy season that is less intense than in other regions, Cha-Am is a year-round destination. The resort offers fine, wide beaches, though the water near the shore is not always clear and jellyfish can sometimes be present. In town, rustic local restaurants serve fresh seafood and classic Thai dishes, and there are small shops and supermarkets for everyday needs.

5. Ban Krut
Stay
About the destination: Ban Krut is a charming small town with miles of clean golden beaches that are used mainly by local fishermen. A local told us that it is one of the few beach destinations with perfect feng shui in terms of its layout. You can stand in the middle of Baan Grood Beach and, looking to the right, see empty beach stretching as far as the eye can see, and when you look to the left there is more empty beach, only broken by the much-loved Golden Buddha and Wat Thang Sai Temple, which sit on Thong Chai Mountain overlooking the town. The town itself has a good selection of local restaurants that also serve as bars, although they usually don’t stay open very late. Most places serve excellent, very affordable Thai food, and recently a few restaurants have opened that offer international cuisine.

6. Chumphon
Stay
About the destination: With 124 miles of coastline, Chumphon boasts many stunning and secluded beaches, as well as some of the best diving and snorkeling on the gulf coast. Chumphon province is situated halfway down the Isthmus of Kra, the slender strip of land bordered by the Andaman Sea on the west and the Gulf of Thailand on the east; western Chumphon shares a border with Myanmar, while the eastern part of the province encompasses more than 124 miles of coastline with numerous beaches that are seldom visited by tourists. As a result, Chumphon is a perfect destination for those seeking relaxation in a serene and natural setting. Chumphon city, the capital of the province, serves as the gateway to other southern provinces as well as the islands in the Gulf of Thailand, particularly Koh Tao. Although the area isn't swarming with tourists, there are still plenty of opportunities for sunbathing, swimming, yachting, paragliding, diving, and snorkeling. Historical records indicate that Chumphon has been continuously inhabited by various communities since prehistoric times, especially in the area along the banks of the Tha Taphao River. Chumphon was also one of the leading trading centers of Siam (Thailand before World War II). As a frontier city, Chumphon is believed to have gotten its name from Chumnumphon, which means the accumulation of forces. Whenever there were army movements, the soldiers would gather their forces here in this province. Other sources suggest that the name comes from a local plant called Maduea Chumphon, which is abundant in this area. This plant has become a symbol of Chumphon Province. Chumphon city, the capital of Chumphon province, is the gateway to Thailand’s southern provinces as well as the islands in the Gulf of Thailand, particularly Koh Tao. With over 124 miles of coastline featuring numerous untouched beaches, Chumphon is an ideal destination for those seeking relaxation in a peaceful and natural setting and who wish to partake in activities such as sunbathing, swimming, yachting, paragliding, diving, and snorkeling.

Khao Sok National Park

8. Khao Sok National Park
Stay
About the destination: Khao Sok National Park, located in southern Thailand between Surat Thani and Phuket, is one of the country’s most stunning natural areas. Its ancient evergreen rainforest, towering limestone cliffs, and misty valleys create a landscape that feels almost prehistoric. The park shelters a wide range of wildlife, including gibbons, hornbills, macaques, and, with some luck, the elusive Asian elephant. For nature enthusiasts and adventure travelers, Khao Sok is a quieter, more untouched alternative to Thailand’s busy islands and beaches. Most visitors split their time between the main rainforest area near Khao Sok Village and the spectacular Cheow Lan Lake. In the rainforest section, you can hike well-marked trails, join a guided night safari to spot nocturnal animals, or take a canoe trip down the Sok River, gliding past dramatic cliffs and thick jungle. Hiring a local guide is highly recommended for safety and to improve your chances of seeing wildlife, since they can identify animals and plants you might otherwise overlook. Cheow Lan Lake is the park’s standout attraction: a jade-green reservoir studded with sheer limestone pinnacles and floating bungalow camps. Spending a night in one of these raft houses is a highlight of any visit—wake to mist rising off the water, join an early-morning boat safari, or explore hidden coves and caves by longtail boat or kayak. Many tours add short jungle hikes to viewpoints or waterfalls, and the overall atmosphere is much calmer than in the popular beach destinations. The best time to visit is generally from December to April, when conditions are drier and trails are easier to walk, though the park remains lush and green all year. Pack light, breathable clothes, sturdy walking shoes, insect repellent, and a rain jacket, especially if you come in the wetter season. You’ll find everything from simple guesthouses in Khao Sok Village to mid-range treehouse lodges and the famous floating bungalows on the lake, so it’s easy to match your accommodations to your comfort level and budget.

Stay
About the destination: Khao Lak is a collection of now tourism-focused villages located mainly in the Takua Pa District and partly in the Thai Mueang District of Phang Nga Province, Thailand. The name “Khao Lak” literally means “Lak Mountain.” Lak Mountain is one of the main peaks in the small hilly mountain range within Khao Lak–Lam Ru National Park. Khao Lak is known for its peaceful, laid-back atmosphere and is a major departure point for liveaboard scuba diving trips to the Similan Islands. It lies north of the island of Phuket along Phetkasem Road, one of Thailand’s four main highways. MAIN TOURIST ATTRACTIONS - **Lampi Waterfall** – A scenic multi-level waterfall surrounded by lush forest. - **Khao Lak–Lam Ru National Park** – Coastal rainforest, viewpoints, beaches, and hiking trails. - **Chong Fah Waterfall** – A picturesque waterfall ideal for swimming and picnicking. - **Cheow Lan Lake and Ratchaprapha Dam** – Stunning views of emerald-green waters and dramatic limestone cliffs. - **Khao Sok National Park** – Jungle trekking on foot or by elephant, waterfall visits, river rafting, and canoeing in pristine rainforest scenery.
